Trust is critical to solving complex problems. And the world is full of complex problems in need of solutions - solutions that will not be developed if people think they are going to be misunderstood, shot down or censured.
There is a lot of hand-wringing about the lack of trust these days. There is very little discussion of holding leaders accountable for it. It is, however, the most valuable impact a leader can have - because trust begets efficiency, advocacy, and loyalty.
There is enough research about trust that developing trust should not be a mystery.
